The concept of self is at the center of Vanessa Aloia’s work, which illustrates her interests in societal perceptions, distortions and mirrors of oneself. She penetrates the concept of acceptable perception by depicting female characters represented in a surreal or even extraterrestrial way. Vanessa explores what the world outside of today is or could be. It is an abstract wormhole that allows the individual to explore distorted conceptualizations of the self as we breathe space into moving towards an updated definition of femininity.
